Photobook Conversations #3 'Portrait'

Photobook Conversations – November 8th 2018
'Portrait'
At our next meet, we will be looking at photobooks by artists who have made work around one person, in essence, a portrait of that person.

Books included are:
'Midnight' by Arlene Gottfried. "During the summer of 1984, photographer Arlene Gottfried met Midnight, the man who was to become both a close confidant and the subject of her photography as she documented the next two decades of his life. At first, Midnight was a handsome and charming companion who danced and performed at nightclubs. But as time passed, he began to behave in an increasingly bizarre fashion..."
'Man Next Door' by Rob Hornstra. "My neighbour, Kid, was 42 when he died" ... "What emerges is a bewildering picture of Kid's many personalities, inevitably raising the question: how well do you know the person who lives next door?"
'For Every Minute You Are Angry You Lose Sixty Seconds of Happiness' by Julian Germain. "In a series of photographs made over eight years, Julian Germain captured the quiet, contemplative existence of an old man living alone in a small house in a city on the south coast of England."
'Look, I'm Wearing All The Colours' by Rikard Osterlund: "I started photographing Zara in the first throes of our romance. Images of eating, sleeping, kissing, laughing and nights out were soon joined by images of flare-ups, bruising, tears and hospital visits."
